LHA 40.xx for AMIGA Computer
Completely rewritten version in 2026!
LHA is based on the LHA format, which Haruyasu Yoshizaki developed in 1988 under the name LHarc-originally for MS-DOS.
The format combines LZSS compression with Huffman coding and quickly gained popularity worldwide.
In late 1991, Stefan Boberg ported the program to the Amiga optimized in 68000 assembly language and with Amiga-specific extensions.
This version became the de facto standard on the Amiga and the preferred archiving method on Aminet.
Further development was handled by Jim Cooper, David Tritscher and Sven Ottemann.
In 2026, Thomas Richter released a completely rewritten version of LHA to modernize the program and fix outstanding bugs.
